“RATHER fail with honor than succeed with fraud,”
says Sophocles, a creative Philosopher.
Sin has no hiding place. You can only run but cannot hide. Fraudulent activities of notorious former Commander of Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, as committed by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, called ‘Tompolo’ has finally come to the fore as he succeeded to have defrauded the government of Nigeria by selling a phoney land located in Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja of the country for a whooping sum of N13billion.
He was alleged to have submitted forged documents to the Ministry of Housing, after which the government without proper verification and due process wired into his bank account this staggering fees. Observers in Niger Delta noted as Tompolo acquired latest customized, bullet-proof automobiles in which he paints the town red and was seen as ‘untouchable’ in the last administration of ex-President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GEJ.
But going by close-knitted directives given by the Nigerian Presidency under President Muhammadu Buhari in a bid to fight corruption in Africa’s most populous nation, all Ministries in Nigeria began to look closely and re-examining their budgetary books.
It was in the course of this that the Ministry of Housing stumbled upon all the shady details and forged documents earlier submitted by Tompolo to have smiled into the bank with N13billion. After discreet investigation was carried out, it was discovered that Nigerian government have been scammed by this ‘criminal-intent’ former militant leader in a land deal.
Pronto, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nigeria’s anti-graft agency was petitioned with all evidential documentary as back-up, which led to the invite sent to Tompolo to appear for investigation and explain all he knew about the N13billion land fraud.
‘We’d Declare you wanted after December 17, 2015’-EFCC
EFCC Head of Operations, Iliasu Kwabai said: “We are giving Tompolo just one week to appear before us solely for investigation. Should he refused to show up before December 17, then we will declare him wanted, as all security agencies in the country will be placed on red alert to smoke him out and effect his arrest, so he can be answerable to justice. We had earlier invited him to appear last month November he never showed up.”
Tompolo’s Hideout in Niger Delta Exposed-INVESTIGATION
After series of undercover intelligence gathering which lasts for over 90 days, it was discovered that for fear of arrest after Tompolo received EFCC invite early November, he had gone into hiding in the creeks of Bayelsa State, one of the major strongholds and hideouts of MEND militancy. There, he is being attended to by his coterie of militant boys, shielding him away from any eventual attack, which may possibly lead to his arrest.
The fact that the creeks in Bayelsa are tough routes, cloudy, muddy and confusing that most security agents in Nigeria may not understand because of its dreadfulness, danger and complexity have provided safe haven for Tompolo holed and living in one of the bunkers in the creeks.
One of the ex-militant boys in Niger Delta privy of this information who would want his name in print due to possibly reprehension from Tompolo squealed that the ex-MEND Commander is very angry at the moment with leadership of EFCC, and to show his resentfulness, he had planted some of his loyal militant boys to step us surveillance on the movement of EFCC boss, so he may teach him a lesson of a lifetime for daring to disgrace him by his invite.
In this militant boy’s words, he said Tompolo in his hideout always say: “Wetin dey do am sef? Him no dey look face. We go teach am lesson. Why him go dey invite me come explain the money wey I don chop? Na only him be the first EFCC Chairman wey Nigerian go get? He dey show himself. He go no how far.”
